Why Psychotherapy?

There are many different reasons people seek out therapy. Some people reach out for support when they are going through something really difficult like a relationship break-up or the loss of a loved one. Therapy is for anyone who feels there is something troubling or distressing them. Regular sessions provide a safe space to think through thoughts and feelings without feeling judged or told what to do. They can be an opportunity to gain perspective, recognise and develop personal strengths and identify solutions.Through my practice, I work to create a space that is patient, encouraging, and curious. I support those I work with to recognise where they are and to find the way to where they want to be.

Jenny Smith - Psychotherapist

Over the last six years I have developed a practice that combines my primary training, as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist (DMP) with training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Accelerated Experiential Psychotherapy (AEDP) and mindfulness based approaches to mental health. I believe that we all have an inherent capacity and ever emergent capacity for healing and that one of the reasons people enter therapy is because they are seeking some sort of change in their life. I make use of talking, visualisation, arts materials and movement to help facilitate that natural process.

Alongside my private practice, I deliver psychotherapeutic services in schools. I teach and supervise practitioners who are new to the field and work alongside teachers, parents and students to create a positive learning experience that adapts and is flexible to the needs of those working, and learning within it.
